| Introduction: Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have deficits in communication and motor skills. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of selected motor training on social and motor development of ASD children. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included ASD children in Ahvaz in 2025. A total of 33 children were selected through convenience sampling, and after completing the autism scale, they were randomly assigned to a homogeneous experimental (n=16) and control group (n=17) groups. The research instruments included the Autism Scale Questionnaire, the Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ), and the Gross Motor Development Test-Third Edition (TGMD-3). Both groups completed the SCQ and TGMD-3 tests in the pre-test and post-test. The experimental group participated in a selected motor exercise intervention for 12 weeks, with three sessions per week. The data were analyzed using one-way analysis of covariance using SPSS version 26 software at a significance level of 0.05. Results: The results showed that the selected motor exercises had a significant effect on the total social development score (p<0.05, η=0.641), the subtest of locomotor skills (p<0.05, η=0.716), ball skills (p<0.05, η=0.806) and the total motor development score (p<0.05, η=0.842) of ASD children. The experimental group performed better than the control group. Conclusion: Motor exercises may improve the social and motor development of children with autism spectrum disorder. Therefore, it may be useful for educators and occupational therapists in educational and treatment centers to incorporate these types of exercises in their intervention programs. |
