Abstract:   (587 Views)
Introduction: Nurses, due to their working conditions, are susceptible to psychological issues such as moral distress and may suffer from burnout and lifestyle changes. This study investigated the relationships between burnout, lifestyle and moral distress among nurses in Birjand city.
Materials and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, simple random sampling using a table of random numbers, was employed to select 188 eligible nurses working in hospitals related to Birjand University of Medical Sciences in 2021 and 2022. This study collected data using a demographics form, the Moral Distress Scale, the Miller-Smith Lifestyle Assessment Inventory, and the Moslash Burnout Inventory. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS.21 and conducting Mann-Whitney, and Spearman correlation tests.
Results: The majority of nurses 60.6% experienced moderate moral distress, while 7.4% suffered from severe moral distress and 31.9% reported low moral distress. Burnout was at a moderate level (54.98±12.30). Burnout had a weak significant, positive relationship with lifestyle and moral distress (p<0.001).
Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that as moral distress increases, job burnout increases too, and lifestyle becomes unhealthier, leading to lower quality nursing care. In critical circumstances, nursing administrators and health policymakers should take  action to alleviate the moral distress of the medical staff.
