Introduction: Although food access is a social and cultural right, a large number of Iranian households are at risk of nutritional vulnerability; therefore, the present study was carried out to evaluate their nutritional status and Calorie Intake requisites.
Method: this study was done using Applied Research Methodology and Survey method. In the summer of 2014 with a cross sectional research method, the energy consumption of 390 households in south of Kerman province were studied by random stratified sampling. The data were collected by questionnaire and SPSS (version 21) was used. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used to analyze the data.
Results: Daily calories received by more than half of the households are way below the requirements. Their calorie intake was related to households’ monthly income, family size, nutrition culture and cognitive and behavioral attitude significantly at 1% level.
Conclusion: More than half of the households receive highly insufficient calories, so it is very important to improve households’ food culture, as well as to introduce the role of different foods in body health. To improve households’ food security, it is also recommended to prepare some supportive policies to improve their nutrition and food access.
