Introduction: Depression is a mood disorder and one of the most common mental disorders that is referred to as mental cold. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on depression in housewives.
Materials and Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental and a pre-test-post test with control group. The statistical population included all women referred to the psychiatric clinic of Sina Hospital in Kamyaran city in the winter of 2017. The sample of this study was 30 people who were selected by psychiatrist's diagnosis and randomly divided into two groups of 15 people. Therapeutic interventions (acceptance and commitment approach) were performed on the experimental group during 12 sessions and once a week. The control group did not receive any training. Data were analyzed by SPSS-20 software using descriptive statistics and covariance analysis.
Results: The results of data analysis using univariate covariance test showed  that after adjusting the  pre-test scores for depression there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (  p=0.001)
Conclusion: Acceptance and commitment therapy can be effective in reducing the depression of housewives. Therefore, this treatment method can be used along with other interventions.
