Introduction: One of the important factors that can interrupt the chain of transmission of infections is compliance with environmental health standards and regulations. The purpose of this study is to identify the status of environmental health standards in hospitals in Ilam.
Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, which was conducted in Ilam province in 2016, eight educational hospitals of Ilam University of Medical Sciences were studied. The data were collected using a 260-question Checklist prepared by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. After collecting data through checklist, the data were analyzed via Excel and SPSS software.
Results: The results of this study showed that in hospital waste collection and disposal section, Imam Khomeini (RA) and Imam Reza (AS) Hospitals obtained the lowest (68%) and highest (67.56%) scores, respectively. Concerning health status of hospital wards, Imam Khomeini (RA) Hospital and Shohada Hospital had the lowest (74%) and the highest (96.55%) scores, respectively. In the radiation and laboratory section, Imam Khomeini (RA) Hospital acquired the lowest score (75%) while other hospitals were relatively better. Regarding the health status of the operating room and the sterilization unit, Rasoul-Akram (PBUH) and Shohada Hospitals had the lowest (70.83%) and the highest (100%) scores, respectively.
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, in order to promote the environmental health status, control and monitoring should be increased. In addition, hospitals should comply with the health standards and regulations and improve the management methods.
