Introduction: Organizational citizenship behavior is defined as a voluntary behavior which goes beyond the prescribed job duties. Authors believe that any improvement of employees' organizational citizenship behavior affects individual and organizational performance indicators, positively. This study was aimed to investigate the nurses' organizational citizenship behavior at three teaching hospitals of Yazd city.
Methods: This descriptive and applied study was done through cross-sectional method during 2015 at 3 educational hospitals of Yazd city. A total of 171 nurses contributed in the study. We used stratified-random method for sampling. Required data was gathered by Podsakoff (1990) organizational citizenship behavior questionnaire. Data analysis was done through SPSS19 and by using descriptive statistics and ANOVA with the significance level of 95%.
Results: Based on the findings of the study the mean scores of contributed nurses' organizational citizenship behavior at studied hospitals were 3.09±0.47، 2.90±0.42 and 3.06±0.46 which showed no statistical difference (P value = 0.060).
Conclusion: Our findings showed that the organizational citizenship behavior of the contributed nurses is in moderate situation. Therefore, implementation of suitable strategies and actions is required in order to strengthen this kind of behavior.
